This is a Cartier (see mark in pics) handwoven Sterling Silver basket, made in the 1950's. I believe they were sold to be used as a basket for the bride and groom's good luck Jordan Almonds. Jordan Almonds, as you know, are significant in Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern weddings, as well as many other cultures. There are many interpretations (Google has more info), but the most familiar is that they represent the bitterness (almonds) and sweetness (sugar) of life, and the wish for the couple to have more sweetness than bitterness.

The basket is in good shape for a true antique (60+ years!) but probably needs a little more attention with a polishing cloth. There's a couple of small scratches on one side, not really noticeable in real life. See pics for condition. It is 3 inches x 2 inches wide x 2 inches deep. My photos were taken in the evening, with warm incandescent light, but it is the standard silver color.

A unique wedding keepsake and future heirloom! Great for storing small things on an elegant vanity table.

Pretty firm on the price on this, they're not seen often, and I've had it for 20+ years. $108.88 includes Free shipping. USA only, please. Paypal only.
