i'm fairly certain that the opal is genuine, and not synthetic, but i don't know for 100%, likewise i assume the amethysts are natural but i don't have any way to test them.

the opal has a good bit of colour flash to it, largely pinky-orange with a touch of minty-turquoise.
and the amethysts are a deep grape-lollipop sort of colour, dark and nicely colour saturated but not so dark that they don't sparkle!

the shank is thick and sturdy, but there is one small rough spot on one side (between the fingers) that i always figured was a casting defect.  a jeweller could easily buff it smooth but it never bothered me enough to have it done.

there's a small piece of black fluff on the opal in some of the pictures - there's not a black blemish on the stone itself.
